Wycombe House Football Club Match Reports09/11/08 - Wycombe House 2 v Brentford St Georges 0 WHFC record their first win of the season thanks to a David Bentleyesque strike from midfield talisman Andrew "Smudge"Piper followed by a predatory strike from the birdman ensuring 3 well deserved points. Up until the Smudge thunderbolt, this was a very even affair with House playing the better football but Brentford edging the opta possesion stats. House started with high workrate levels as each player hustled their opponents out of their stride and then hit them quickly on the break. House could have taken the lead in the 20th minute when Birdie hit a shot similar to Geoff Hurst circa 1966 which burst through the keepers hands and crashed on the underside of the crossbar and then bounced down but not over the line. A lot of good opportunities from corners led to no breakthrough and if it wasnt for David " Chuckles" Mallam pulling of a one handed flying save, House could have gone in at the break 1 down. The House line up showed many changes this week and notably the introduction of Ben ,Bean and Scouse. All 3 had fantastic games with Ben booming up and down the right like a young Jason Mcateer. Bean showing Paul McGrath qualities at the back and Scouse pulling the strings like a young Pablo Aimar. The house team had balance and pace to match its creativity. Smudge was his usual self as he found space where others feared to tred. The workrate was the plus point of the first half as we matched the oppo in all areas of the pitch. The 2nd half saw Brentford start well, they carved open an opportunity which their striker put away only for Jerome to thrust his flag up skyward..denied they were. That was the wake up call House needed as we started to pass and move the ball carving out chances. Mohsin "Mozza" Tirmizi, Hound and Smudge all hand gilt edged chances to open the scoring but all failed to put the ball away. Finally Smudge gave the game the moment of class it deserved as he struck one from 25 yards which thundered into the corner of the net 1 -0 . Brentford came back at the House but for all their possesion did not create a real clear chance. As they piled forward they left space at the back for the House to exploit and exploit it they did with Birdie showing some real strength and calm as he held of a rugby tackle and rounded a statuesqe keeper 2 - 0. House brought on their replacements and the fresh legs helped weather the battering they took for the last ten minutes. Superb defending from the front saw House hold on to a hard fought and well deserved first league victory. Managers Man of The Match : Robert Henderson 16/11/08 - Southall Spartak 2 Wycombe House 4 WHFC earnt a hard fought victory in every sense of the word as they totally outplayed their opponents to earn 3 points. The first half was unbelievable to watch as the House cut the league leaders apart and created so many chances they could have gone in at half time with 7 or 8 goals to their name. Hound and Birdie just had to much pace and movement as a hesitant Southall defence failed to get to grips with them. Hound after failing to put away a couple of chances eventually put the house in front with a neat finish. Southall simply went to pieces and so did their discipline . A soft penalty followed which gave the House a 2 - 0 lead , but the House should have been out of sight by this stage as Hound, Bridie and a glaring miss from Tirmizi spared Southall. Another penalty followed by a fouth from Birdie and the House were in dreamland. The performances all over the pitch were superb and Southall simply had no match as the House refused to be intimidated. Scouse and Jerome killed any attacking moves by the oppo and as we reached half time we were in total control. Southall came at us hard in the second period but didnt create any real chances. The tackles got worse as they became more frustrated. After a few changes House lost a bit of momentum . A clean tackle from Stevie was wrongly adjudged a penalty and Southall had a sniff. A second quickly after rattled the House , Instead of capitalizing on this Southall wanted to fight and ugly scenes followed. By this time i think the ref had had enough and blew up. The threats continued after the game , a shame as our reward for playing good football should not have been the threat of having your legs broken...Sunday football you gotta love it ! Managers Man of The Match : Andrew Burton / Alex Smith 23/11/08 - Wycombe House 4 Southall Spartak 2 3 wins on the spin for the House as they swept Southall aside with a superb second half comeback. After the shenanigans of last week, this weeks game was all about the football and both teams made this an entertaining game. Southall started the better, controlling the play and forcing the House to concede silly free kicks. So it was against the run of play that House took the lead when a huge clearance from chuckles landed inbetween the centre back and the keeper. It was a flashback to Terry and Carson as neither made any decision and the Hound swooped in to slam it home past the rooted keeper 1-0. House slowly grew into the game, Mohsin was leading Southall a merry dance as he showed us just how good he is. Some slick interplay saw House carve open Spartak time and time again and with some better luck the lead could have been increased. The defence and midfield were solid for the first 30. Danny P and Jerome snuffed out everything in midfield whilst Stevie and Nodor dealt with the immense physical threat that Spartak offered upfront. A superb one handed flying save denied Southall from equalising but it was only a minor delay as the Big centre forward ran on to a cross and powered his header home from 6 yards. A soft goal as he ghosted into the box, no mean feat by a man larger than John Carew !. 1-1 at Halftime Spartak again started well and with 5 mins gone and with House failing to clear, Spartak took the lead when they stabbed home fom 5 yards 2-1. More pressure on the House and a superb clearance of the line by George signalled the House fightback. As Spartak over committed Smudge started to take control. Dropping deep and sliding through balls like a young Ray Wilkins. A fould by George went unpunished and he forced the ball onto Smudge who played a little reverse ball into Hound..band 2-2. Spartaks head dropped and House scented victory , George saw plenty of the ball and along with Smudge had the Spartak defence at sixes and sevens. None of this would have been possible without the workrate of Danny and Jerome. They won every header tackle and physical battle which was on offer a superb perfomance by both. The back door were solid, Dean and Rodders won ever chaqllenge and their positional play was spot on. Stevie was immense and Nodor with his distribution was the closest thing to Franz Beckenbauer the House has ever seen !. A goalmoth scramble led to the 3rd when an attempted clearance rebounded of the Hound for 3-2. The fourth goal was courtesy of quite possibly the cross of the season, Hard to believe it came from the boot of Sos but it was amazing . He whipped in aball on the run which Hound buried 4-2 game over. A great comeback and everyman played out of their skins...Superb Managers Man of The Match: Jerome / Danny |
